Do you tend to put yourself last?
Do everyone’s needs come before your own?
When was the last time you took some time for yourself?
At a women’s retreat I attended, we learned about the importance of a 7-pillow day. This is a day – just for you – that is exactly what it sounds like. You stay in your jammies, surrounded by lots of comfy pillows and blankets, watch movies and/or read your favorite magazines or books, and eat your favorite foods! It is a much-needed day to recharge and refuel!
But many times, with our work or family obligations, we can’t take a whole day to do that (although I heartily recommend you try to take at least two of these a year).
So, if you have limited time, what else can you do to relax, recharge, and refuel?
I used to think I was too busy for a massage or a mani-pedi. I hate to admit that when someone gave me a gift certificate, I usually gave it away. That foolishness stopped about ten years ago when I actually decided to have my first pedicure! My daughter and I went together, and it was so relaxing and fun. I realized what I had been missing all these years! And it only took about an hour.It was even more fun because I shared it with my daughter.
The same goes for my first massage. I met my sisters at a spa and we spent a couple of hours being pampered with massages, the sauna, and with a manicure and pedicure. After working and going full-speed most of the time, it was great to take some sister bonding time and just be pampered! We caught up on each other’s lives, shared stories, laughed and thoroughly enjoyed our time together – just us sisters!
So, whether you have a 7-Pillow day, or take a couple of hours to pamper yourself with a massage, mani-pedi, or another service – just for you – it isn’t selfish, heck no! I found it a wonderful way to slow down for a moment, and let myself relax and recharge.
Remember, you can’t help others and do all you need to do if your tank is empty! So, whether you take some time for yourself – or use this time to bond with friends or family – we as women need physical and mental refueling. This rest and rejuvenation time gives you something more – it gives you back yourself. And in the busyness and demands of everyday life, that’s someone you may not have seen for a while…
