Are you Making Memories or Excuses?

Are you Making Memories or Excuses?

Back to school, fall festivals, special events – do you ever feel like there is too much going on?
That’s because there IS too much going on! But that is almost always the case.

We all tend to get caught up with our never ending to do lists which often causes us to lose sight of what really matters.

Do you catch yourself saying “No.” to fun invitations, festivals, and events because there is just too much to do?

Late this summer, I surprised myself and said “Yes!” to an invitation to the fair. I haven’t been in a while. It would have been easy to say, “No, I’m sorry I have too much going on this week!” But instead, I said “Yes!”

I enjoyed being with friends while wandering around the fairgrounds. And I especially enjoyed eating a funnel cake! It reminded me of many times while growing up I spent attending the fair. Someone had to take time to make that memory for me!

When my daughter was in elementary school, we planned a lot of activities including fall festivals and special events. We made time to make memories. We didn’t have extra time – we made time – and everything else had a way of working out.

For several years, my girlfriends and I met for breakfast and then spent the day visiting festivals and open houses. So many fun memories!

How easy it is to fall out of the habit of making time.

Don’t feel guilty. Instead, make a plan. Look at all the options. Circle the ones that look most interesting. Let your kids pick one and you pick one. Call your girlfriends and meet for breakfast and hit as many festivals as you can in a day.

Your “To-Do List” can wait. You’ve got some memories to make…
